Epoch Church (2/5)

“I would say, years 7 and 8 were our lean years. The place we were in was a small building, our people weren’t making any money cause they’re all young. So we couldn’t really afford anything more. But we were all starting to have kids so we needed more kid space. So we started really getting in this bind where we knew we are maxed out and our people need more than what they are getting so what are we going to do? We just started really praying through that. The building that we are at now started coming up in year 9, it was vacant. Eventually the whole idea of purchasing it came up. The elders literally made a decision and said, ‘Look, we think this has to happen, otherwise we are going to die.’ We couldn’t grow. We were maxed out at about 65 people. So the elders said, ‘Let’s do this. If we die, at least we die swinging.’ Thankfully the Lord made all the numbers work with the help of other churches and the Convention. When we jumped in that space, we really didn’t know what was going to happen. Nathan and I were both like, ‘Well we got to.’ It was like the Lord opened doors and we made it. We tell people it took about 10 years for us to get to where we thought we were seeing fruit. As pastors, you a lot of times don’t like to hear that, 10 years is a long time to invest in something. We felt like that was when the Lord was really pruning us, saying, ‘You’re not seeing a lot of fruit right now but are you willing to follow?’ We were and our community was.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
